The form of Latin S occurs from Greek Σ by dropping 1 out of the four strokes of that letter. The (angular) S-form made up of three strokes existed being a variant with the 4-stroke letter Σ presently in the epigraphy of Western Greek alphabets, and the 3 and 4 strokes variants existed along with one another in the classical Etruscan alphabet.You
